Cwm Cloccs

Hot Tub
Sleeps 6

Bedrooms: 3
A property trapped in time; the original features of this character cottage have been sympathetically maintained to create a unique destination holiday home. Despite the textured stone walls, original oak beams and slate flagged flooring in this former clog makers cottage, care has been taken to update the property to an excellent modern standard, complete with a private hot tub, modern appliances and extremely comfortable beds in all three bedrooms. Six guests are invited to stay in comfort in this one-of-a-kind space, enjoying the ever-pleasant gardens bordered by woodlands with a stream running through in the summer or cosying up by the wood burner when the weather turns cold. You’re greeted with rustic charm as you step into the dining room with a large farmhouse table and a decorative Aga. From here you can head upstairs to find all three bedrooms and the bathroom or stay downstairs to access the kitchen or lounge. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you might need to feed six hungry guests and the lounge has been smartly laid out with cushy seating, a Smart TV and the wood burner. Outside, the property comes to life with a grassy lawn, mature flora and a patio space with an outdoor shower for use after muddy walks, trips to the beach or after a dip in the hot tub. Find beaches in abundance along Cardigan Bay, accessible within 5 miles. Visit the nearby town of Aberaeron (5 miles), a place with pastel-coloured houses that line the seafront, a fantastic pebble beach and some quality restaurants. From here you can embark on a hike or bike ride along the Wales Coast Path, keeping an eagle eye out for pods of dolphins in the water as you venture along to New Quay (8.5 miles).

Lampeter Guide

Lampeter's cottages with hot tubs offer a brilliant base for exploring this historic Welsh market town. The smallest university town in the UK, Lampeter sits in the stunning Teifi Valley with the River Teifi running alongside it.

Top attractions include the University of Wales Trinity Saint David campus (4.5/5 on TripAdvisor) with its impressive Victorian buildings and the nearby Dolaucothi Gold Mines (4/5 on TripAdvisor) where Romans mined for gold nearly 2,000 years ago.

Welsh poet Dylan Thomas frequently visited Lampeter in the 1940s, often staying at the Black Lion Hotel where he'd write and enjoy the local ale. The town's Welsh heritage runs deep - over 65% of residents speak Welsh as their first language.

Cottages range from cosy one-bedroom retreats with private hot tubs to large farmhouses that sleep 10+ with outdoor spa facilities. Many offer dog-friendly options, while some provide glamping pods with hot tubs for those wanting something different.

Sightseeing

Lampeter packs a lot into a small space. The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (SA48 7ED) dominates the town with its Victorian Gothic buildings. You can walk around the grounds freely - I recommend the Old Building with its beautiful chapel.

The Lampeter Museum (4.3/5 on TripAdvisor) houses fascinating exhibits on local history. It's open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm and entry is free, though donations help keep it running.

Just 15 minutes away, the National Trust's Llanerchaeron estate (4.6/5 on TripAdvisor) offers a perfectly preserved Georgian villa and working farm. Open daily 10am-5pm, it's worth the short drive.

The Teifi Valley Railway (4.2/5 on TripAdvisor) runs narrow gauge steam trains along a scenic route. Kids love it and the tea room serves excellent Welsh cakes. Open weekends and school holidays, 10:30am-4:30pm.

Pet Friendly

Dogs will love the walks around Lampeter. The Teifi Pools trail offers five lakes with stunning views and plenty of space for dogs to run. The path is well-marked but can get muddy after rain.

Y Talbot pub (SA48 7BG) welcomes dogs in the bar area and serves great food. They even provide water bowls and treats. We've heard the Sunday roast is exceptional.

Conti's Café (SA48 7BN) has outdoor seating where dogs are welcome. Their homemade ice cream is fantastic after a long walk. They're open 9am-5pm daily.

Most beaches within 30 minutes' drive allow dogs year-round, including parts of Aberaeron and New Quay. Remember to bring towels for muddy paws before getting back in the car or jumping in the hot tub!

Top 3 attractions you have to see in Lampeter

The Dolaucothi Gold Mines (SA19 6NA) are the only known Roman gold mines in Britain. Put on a hard hat and take the underground tour to see how gold was extracted 2,000 years ago. The guides are brilliant and full of information about Roman mining techniques. Open daily 10am-5pm, the 1-hour tours run throughout the day. Visitors say it's "fascinating" and "much better than expected".

The Teifi Valley Cheese Farm (SA44 5DA) makes award-winning Welsh cheeses using traditional methods. Watch the cheese-making process through viewing windows before tasting samples in the shop. Their Celtic Promise cheese won Supreme Champion at the British Cheese Awards. Open Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm. Recent visitors called it "a cheese lover's paradise".

Cors Caron National Nature Reserve (SN686634) is a massive peat bog with wooden boardwalks that take you right through this unusual landscape. The wildlife spotting is excellent - red kites, otters and if you're lucky, the rare marsh fritillary butterfly. Free entry and open all year. Visitors describe it as "wonderfully peaceful" and "teeming with birds".

Is Lampeter worth visiting?

Absolutely! Lampeter might be small but it's packed with character. The university gives it a lively feel, there are excellent independent shops and you're surrounded by beautiful countryside. Plus the hot tubs in the local cottages make evenings special after a day exploring.

What's the best time of year to visit Lampeter?

Late spring (May-June) offers lovely weather without summer crowds. The Lampeter Food Festival in July is brilliant for foodies. Autumn brings gorgeous colours to the surrounding hills. Winter can be quiet but cosy - nothing beats a hot tub under starry Welsh skies in December!

Are there good places to eat in Lampeter?

For a small town, the food scene is surprisingly good. The Hedgehog serves excellent locally-sourced meals. Lloyd Thomas Butchers makes amazing pies and sausages for self-catering. The university brings international influences too - try Mustafa's for unexpected but delicious Turkish food.

How far is Lampeter from the coast?

It's about 30 minutes' drive to New Quay or Aberaeron on the Cardigan Bay coast. Both have lovely beaches and you might spot dolphins offshore. The coastal path offers stunning walks if you want a change from countryside rambling.

Is Welsh widely spoken in Lampeter?

Yes! Over 65% of locals speak Welsh as their first language. You'll hear it in shops and pubs. Don't worry if you don't speak Welsh though - everyone speaks English too. Locals appreciate visitors who learn a few basic phrases like "Diolch" (thank you).

What's the parking situation in Lampeter?

There's a large free car park behind the Co-op supermarket (SA48 7HF) with no time restrictions. On-street parking is available but limited to 1 hour in most places. All cottage rentals with hot tubs provide private parking.
