Dobwalls Cottages with Hot Tubs

Dobwalls Guide

Dobwalls is a small Cornish village with a surprising number of hot tub cottages. Located just 3 miles from Liskeard, it's perfectly positioned for exploring both Cornwall's north and south coasts. The village sits on the edge of Bodmin Moor, giving you easy access to wild landscapes and coastal paths.

According to TripAdvisor, the most popular attractions near Dobwalls include Carnglaze Caverns (4.5/5), Golitha Falls (4.5/5) and Adrenalin Quarry (4/5). The area gained brief fame when author Daphne du Maurier used the nearby landscape as inspiration for her novel "Jamaica Inn."

Cottage stays in Dobwalls offer privacy you won't find in hotels. Many properties feature private gardens where you can enjoy your hot tub without neighbours peering over. The area has everything from converted barns sleeping 10+ to intimate shepherd's huts with wood-fired hot tubs.

Dobwalls cottages make excellent bases for walkers, cyclists and families. The village's central location means you're never more than 30 minutes from major attractions, while still enjoying peaceful countryside evenings in your hot tub.

Sightseeing

Dobwalls sits in a prime spot for exploring Cornwall's best bits. You're just 20 minutes from the fishing town of Looe with its sandy beach and harbour. The Eden Project is only 25 minutes away (PL24 2SG, open 9am-6pm summer, 9am-4:30pm winter) and remains one of Cornwall's must-see attractions with its massive biomes.

Carnglaze Caverns (PL14 6HG) is practically on your doorstep - just 5 minutes away. These former slate mines now house an underground lake and concert venue. They score 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor and make a brilliant rainy day option.

Bodmin Moor starts just north of the village. I recommend visiting Golitha Falls (PL14 6RU) where the River Fowey tumbles through ancient woodland. It's free to visit and gets 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor. The woodland walk takes about an hour, leaving plenty of time to get back to your hot tub.

For something different, Adrenalin Quarry (PL14 3AH) offers zip lines, giant swings and coasteering just 10 minutes from Dobwalls. They score 4/5 on TripAdvisor and tickets start from £15 per activity.

Pet Friendly

Many Dobwalls cottages welcome dogs and the area is perfect for four-legged visitors. The village has several footpaths leading directly into farmland and woodland where dogs can run off-lead.

The Highwayman pub in the village (PL14 4LT) allows dogs in the bar area and garden. They serve decent pub grub and local ales - exactly what you need after a long walk.

Nearby Cardinham Woods (PL30 4AL) has miles of marked trails and a dog-friendly café called Woods Café. Their outdoor seating area even provides water bowls and treats.

When heading to the coast, Seaton Beach near Looe allows dogs year-round, unlike many Cornish beaches that have summer restrictions. The beach has a river running through it where dogs can splash about safely.

My top tip: bring towels specifically for your dog - Cornwall can get muddy and nobody wants a mucky dog jumping in the hot tub!

Top 3 attractions you have to see in Dobwalls

Dobwalls Adventure Park (PL14 4LN) has been transformed in recent years. What was once a small model railway is now a family adventure centre with high ropes, archery and axe throwing. The staff are incredibly helpful with children and the café serves surprisingly good homemade cakes. One visitor called it "the highlight of our Cornwall trip" on TripAdvisor.

Porfell Wildlife Park (PL14 4RE) sits just outside Dobwalls and houses over 250 animals, many rescued from the exotic pet trade. Their lemur experience lets you feed these playful primates by hand. What makes this place special is how close you get to the animals. A recent visitor wrote: "Nothing like the big commercial zoos - you can really see the animals up close."

Siblyback Lake (PL14 6ER) offers watersports, fishing and a 5km walking trail with stunning views of Bodmin Moor. The watersports centre rents kayaks, paddleboards and sailing dinghies from March to October. The café overlooking the water makes a great lunch stop. One TripAdvisor reviewer noted: "We watched ospreys fishing while eating our sandwiches - magical!"

Is Dobwalls worth visiting?

Absolutely. While the village itself is small, its location makes it perfect for exploring Cornwall. You're within 30 minutes of beaches, moorland and major attractions, but accommodation costs less than in tourist hotspots like Padstow or St Ives.

When is the best time to visit Dobwalls?

May and September offer the perfect balance of decent weather and fewer crowds. School holidays see Cornwall's roads become congested, especially near beaches. If you must visit in summer, having your own hot tub means you can still enjoy water even when the beaches are packed.

Can you walk to pubs from Dobwalls cottages?

Yes, The Highwayman pub is within walking distance of most cottages in the village. For more options, Liskeard is just 3 miles away with several pubs and restaurants.

Do I need a car in Dobwalls?

While there is a bus service connecting Dobwalls to Liskeard and Bodmin, a car is highly recommended. Many of Cornwall's best spots aren't accessible by public transport and taxis can be expensive and hard to book in peak season.

What's the nearest beach to Dobwalls?

Looe beach is the closest at about 20 minutes drive. It's a sandy beach with shallow water, perfect for families. For something quieter, try Talland Bay (25 minutes) which has rock pools and a café.

Are there any supermarkets near Dobwalls?

Liskeard (3 miles away) has a large Morrisons and a Sainsbury's. There's also a small convenience store in Dobwalls itself for essentials. Many supermarkets deliver to cottages in the area if you book a slot in advance.
